LABOR’S FIGHT TO PROTECT PUBLIC SCHOOLS REACHES HUNTER

Federal Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon is joining concerned parents, educators and citizens in the Hunter electorate to send Mr Turnbull a clear message - don’t abandon our public schools.

Mr Fitzgibbon said the message from the local community was clear - public education is too important to be put on Mr Turnbull’s scrapheap.

“In the chaos and dysfunction the Liberals showed recently, one thing became crystal clear - the Government’s $30 billion cuts are only the beginning of their destruction of our school system,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“Mr Turnbull revealed his hand, showing his only priority is to abandon public education altogether. This would be devastating for the Hunter electorate, and push our children into a two-tiered school system.”

“Our local schools do a fantastic job, and we want to see them supported, not abandoned. Investment in education is really important to ensure the next generation get good jobs, and local students simply cannot afford to be left behind.”

In contrast, Labor has made difficult decisions on taxation and savings to fully fund our Your Child. Our Future plan for Australia’s education system because we know that the future of our children, and the future of our country, depends on investing in education.

“When Australians arrive at their local public school to vote this election, they will know a vote for Labor is a vote for the future of Australia’s children, and a vote for Mr Turnbull is a vote for $30 billion in cuts and the complete gutting of public schools,” said Mr Fitzgibbon.

“I will fight Mr Turnbull’s policy every step of the way because I know that our local schools deserve better.”

Labor’s $37 billion Your Child. Our Future plan for schools will make sure the Gonski reforms are delivered on-time and in full, and will reverse the Government cuts to education over the next decade.
