SALUTING THE SERVICE OF THE KERANG DISTRICT

The Kerang and District Family History Group will receive Federal

Government funding to install a First World War memorial at Kerang

Cemetery, the Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad, announced today.

“Many families in the Kerang area made the ultimate sacrifice during World

War One and it’s important that we honour their sacrifice.

“This $3,000 in funding under the Saluting Their Service Commemorative

Grants Programme will allow the Kerang and District Family History Groups to

install a memorial, with a commemorative plaque, in the Kerang Cemetery.

“The Saluting Their Service Programme aims to promote our appreciation and

understanding of the role that those who served, have played in shaping our

nation.

“Country areas like Kerang saw many of their young men leave to fight in the

World Wars, never to return. The wars exacted a large toll on our

communities and their service should always be remembered.”

The Saluting Their Service Programme is designed to preserve Australia’s

wartime heritage and to engage people around the country in a wide range of

activities and projects developed to pay homage to our servicemen and

women, both in conflict and peacetime operations.
