Government thanks Doug Campbell for NBN contribution

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Senator Stephen Conroy today thanked Doug Campbell for his service to the telecommunications industry, following the announcement of his retirement from the end of the year.

Mr Campbell will be leaving his position as Executive Chairman of NBN Tasmania, a role he has held since July 2009. This follows the successful completion of the first stage of the NBN rollout in Tasmania.

Residents, businesses and schools in the Stage 1 communities in Midway Point, Smithton and Scottsdale are the first in Australia to enjoy the benefits of superfast optic fibre broadband over the NBN.

Mr Campbell will also leave his position as a member of the NBN Co Board.

“Doug has had a long and distinguished career in the telecommunications sectors in Australian and Canada and he has made a valuable contribution to the industry and community,” Senator Conroy said.

“Doug has held significant roles in Telstra wholesale, international and networks divisions, and established the successful Telstra Country Wide business.

“Stage 1 of the NBN Tasmania project was delivered on time and under budget, and has provided important insights for the rest of the NBN rollout.

“I wish Doug all the best for the future,” Senator Conroy said.
