New Work for the Dole Coordinator service for Southern Tasmania and Hobart

Senator the Hon Eric Abetz

Leader of the Government in the Senate

Minister for Employment

Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service

Senator for Tasmania

Minister for Employment Senator Eric Abetz today announced the start of the new Work for the Dole Coordinator service in Southern Tasmania and Hobart.

The new Work for the Dole Coordinator is Enterprise Management Group.

“Enterprise Management Group will work with not-for-profit organisations, charities, local councils and state government agencies to identify possible activities and projects for Work for the Dole,” Senator Abetz said.

Senator Abetz said while there is an emphasis on job readiness there is also a substantial social and personal dividend for participants by keeping them actively and gainfully engaged within their community.

“Work for the Dole helps job seekers learn new skills while at the same time giving something back to the community that supports them while they look for work,” Senator Abetz said.

“It can be particularly helpful for young job seekers who may not have much practical work experience, or for those job seekers who have been out of the workforce for a while.

“Work for the Dole allows job seekers to demonstrate to potential employers that they are keen and willing to work.

“In addition, local community groups benefit from the additional help provided through Work for the Dole activities.”

Work for the Dole can be conducted on an individual or group basis, depending on the needs of the host organisation.

The sorts of activities that can be included range from office administration and customer service through to outdoor tasks like landscaping and repairs.

“I congratulate Enterprise Management Group on being selected to deliver this service and I look forward to working with them to get more local job seekers job ready and into jobs,” Senator Abetz concluded.

Work for the Dole is part of the Australian Government’s new $5 billion jobactive employment service.
