Fast broadband on the way for Cowper

NBN Co has announced the construction schedule for superfast broadband to roll out to more than 26,400 North Coast homes and businesses over the next three years.

The construction schedule released today outlines the plan to network 9.5 million premises nationwide over three years with work commencing in the Cowper electorate next year.

“Superfast broadband is vital for our North Coast regional businesses to flourish and grow,” Luke Hartsuyker said.

“The news that construction of fixed line broadband and fixed wireless internet will start in the third quarter of next year is positive for businesses and residents the length and breadth of the Cowper electorate.

“While I would like to see every residence and business connected to superfast broadband as soon as possible, as with any major infrastructure project, the simple reality is that is takes time.

“The Coalition’s accelerated construction program will bring NBN to the North Coast six years faster than if Labor was in Government.

“This plan demonstrates the Coalition’s commitment to rural and regional Australia in closing the digital divide by providing fast internet to every home and business by 2020.”

The new NBN rollout plan which continues to September 2018, provides a breakdown of when the network will be starting in specific locations across the North Coast and the type of technology that will be used.

“Internet access is vitally important for our North Coast communities; it transforms education, health care and other critical online services and boosts business competitiveness and growth potential,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“Businesses will also benefit from the vastly higher bandwidth available.”

Nationwide, more than 1.3 million homes and businesses can now order an NBN service and there are almost 700,000 homes and business under construction. Around 600,000

premises already have an active connection and are enjoying the benefits of very fast broadband.

I will continue to keep North Coast residents informed of the progress of this important project for Australia.
