If you are between 17 and 60 and fit and keen, check out the local Army Reserves

“If you are male or female, aged between 17 and 60, and can pass a pre-enlistment fitness test, why not consider doing your nation and yourself a service in joining the Shepparton Army Reserve unit?

Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray said “that the Reserves was a great option for everyone, but in particular for farm families right now because the tax free pay does not impact on EC drought support payments.

“The pre enlistment fitness test includes such requirements as 15 push ups for men and 8 for women, with both men and women being able to do at least 45 sit ups. There are also running and some aptitude and psych type checks.

“Once you are accepted, and recruited, Army Reservists parade on Tuesday nights at Shepparton. Some weekend commitment may also be required. You can be involved for as few as 14 days or over 100 days per year. Wangaratta and Bendigo also have Reserve units.

“The reservist’s employer, whether a farmer, farm partner or other business person may receive up to $1123.30 per week to release the reservist, depending on their commitment away from work, under the Employer Support Payment Scheme.

“There are a range of different ways to serve in the Army Reserve, including in combat roles, in medical, technical, transport or administration. Reservists may serve as an officer or soldier.

“The army reserve is an important way to serve your country while learning new skills and earning additional income, Dr Stone said.

“Army recruitment staff have been at the Somme Barracks in Shepparton this week speaking with interested people about the opportunities available, Sharman Stone said
