THE HON BRENDAN O’CONNOR MP SHADOW MINISTER FOR EMPLOYMENT AND WORKPLACE RELATIONS MEMBER FOR GORTON

DIRTY DEEDS

Reports today that cleaners in Parliament House are being denied a pay rise show just how mean the Abbott Government is.

They won’t even pay a decent wage to the people who clean their offices.

The cleaners at Parliament House do a fantastic job, and they deserve respect and fair wages and conditions.

Last June, Mr Abbott scrapped the Commonwealth Cleaning Services Guidelines, which guaranteed a pay rise for cleaners in government buildings, including Parliament House.

Tony Abbott promised that cleaner’s pay would not be cut, but we have already seen cleaners at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection receiving $2 an hour less, and their annual wages reduced by thousands of dollars.

Tony Abbott knew axing the guidelines would see cleaners paid less.

Tony Abbott is as committed to driving down wages and conditions, WorkChoices style, as ever.

Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey only care about their own jobs, not the jobs of the people who clean their offices.
