INDUSTRY WANTS CLARITY ABOUT IRON ORE INQUIRY

Shadow Minister for Resources the Hon Gary Gray AO MP met with State and Territory ALP colleagues at the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association’s Conference and Exhibition 2015 this week to discuss priorities and concerns in the resources portfolio.

“My Labor colleagues share my concerns about the mixed messages and lack of detail from Tony Abbott on his mooted iron ore inquiry,” said Mr Gray.

“The industry is confused about the Government’s purpose and intention in holding this inquiry.

“It’s time for the Prime Minister to resolve this once and for all.

“He is on the record saying there should be an inquiry - he must explain how it will work.

“Either he admits he was wrong and acknowledges the damage the uncertainty he’s created has done to the industry - or he fronts up and explains how he wants this inquiry to run.

“The Government needs to release details on the scope of its inquiry. We need to see exactly what the Government has planned.

“Labor is resolved that an inquiry into the marketing of iron ore is not necessary, and is not in the national interest.

“This industry is too important.”
