The Minister for Trade and Overseas Development, John Kerin, today announced the retirement of Dr Robert Dun from his position of Director General of the Australian International Development Assistance Bureau (AIDAB). Dr Dun, who has been Director General since March 1983, will leave AIDAB on March

14, 1993 after 10 years of distinguished service.

Mr Kerin said that Dr Dun had provided effective leadership to AIDAB over a decade in which there had been major initiatives in the management and delivery of aid activities, arising primarily from the Government's endorsement of the Jackson

review of the aid program.

'Bob Dun has made a valuable contribution to Australia's national interests through his work as Director General of AIDAB. I thank him on behalf of the Government and wish him every success in the future', Mr Kerin said.

Mr Kerin also announced the appointment by the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mr Philip Flood as Dr Dun's successor as Director General of AIDAB. Mr Flood is currently Australia's Ambassador to Indonesia.

Mr Kerin said that Mr Flood, who is one of Australia's most distinguished diplomats, is expected to take up his new appointment in late March 1993.

'Phillip Flood is excellently equipped to provide leadership to AIDAB and will bring a great deal of professionalism and management expertise to the organisation', Mr Kerin said.

Mr Flood has been Australia's representative to the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Chief Executive Officer for Trade Negotiations with the EEC, High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Deputy Commissioner of the Public Service Board and a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
