Scrapping the carbon tax will cut power bills for Tasmanian families

Abolishing the carbon tax will lower electricity bills for many Tasmanian families by 7.8%.

The Independent Tasmanian Economic Regulator today approved Aurora Energy’s standing offer electricity prices that will come into effect on 1 July 2014 for 12 months.

This substantial price drop is based on the expectation that the carbon tax will be repealed from 1 July 2014.

The carbon tax is currently adding $11 million to Australian power bills every day.

There is absolutely no doubt the carbon tax is causing massive pain for Australian families - without environmental gain.

Across the country, households are forecast to be around $550 a year better off, on average without the carbon tax.

It’s time for Labor to stop standing in the way of much needed relief for families.

Next week Labor will have another chance to support repeal of the carbon tax and vote in favour of lower power prices for Australian families.

On 1 July 2014, the carbon tax will hike up by more than 5 per cent, rising from $24.15 to $25.40 per tonne.
