MEDIA RELEASE

JOBS CUTS LEADS TO QANTAS CUTS

The Abbott Government must immediately release its jobs plan for workers in Nhulunbuy after the devastating news that Qantas will stop all flights into the region from August.

This announcement will mean further job losses for a community which is already facing 1200 job losses from the Rio Tinto alumina refinery.

The Nhulunbuy and the North East Arnhem region faces a dramatic decrease in population and services.

Having air access reduced will be a further blow to residents and businesses.

The community has been looking to the Government to lobby for and provide assistance to the region, but the Abbott Government has ignored their pleas.

The Abbott Government must let local people know what plans they have for the future of Nhulunbuy.
