Greens will vote to block harsh childcare cuts

The Abbott Government’s decision to freeze the indexation of childcare support payments will hit families hard.

“These cuts will mean that more than half a million families with children in care will find it harder to make ends meet,” Senator Hanson-Young said.

“This Budget has ripped millions of dollars out of the pockets of mums and dads around the country, this is the last thing that they need.”

“The Abbott Government has launched an attack on every day Australian families who are already struggling under this budget’s savage cuts.

“The Labor Party’s decision to support the freeze on the Child Care Rebate will end up hurting 150,000 families a year.”

“Labor needs to stop flip-flopping on childcare and vote to block both measures in the Senate.

“The only way to ensure that all Australian families have access to high quality, affordable childcare is to invest in the sector.

“The Greens will vote to block these harsh changes in the Senate, helping to keep childcare affordable for thousands of families around the country.
