Greens welcome loggers’ bid for attention at Press Gallery charity ball

The Australian Greens are delighted to learn that the Australian Forest Products Association has bid for a dinner with Greens Leader Christine Milne, Deputy Leader Adam Bandt and Senator Scott Ludlam, as part of the Annual Parliament House Press Gallery Mid-Winter Ball fundraiser.

“Of course, the charity auction hasn’t closed yet, but I would welcome a discussion with AFPA on the importance of preserving Tasmania’s World Heritage forests,” said Senator Milne.

“I’d look forward to having a detailed conversation about the transition out of native forests, the failure of forestry managed investment schemes and the need to develop and promote new and sustainable plantation timber products.

“I’m also looking forward to bids from the Minerals Council, the IPA and Rupert Murdoch.

“AFPA could be forgiven for thinking this is how politics works, but no group has to hand over money to meet with me or one of my colleagues.

“We welcome AFPA’s support of the charities that will benefit from this fundraising auction. Perhaps a generous bidding war can also keep the forest wars at bay.”
