ROWAN RAMSEY MP Member for Grey

MEDIA RELEASE

September 7 to 13 is Child Protection Week and Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said it is the perfect time to encourage people to be aware of children’s safety in the community.

Mr Ramsey said in Grey there are almost 30,000 children under the age of 15, sadly some of whom are suffering from neglect and abuse.

“National Child Protection Week is a time when we can spread the message that it is the responsibility of all adults to have a positive influence on children,” he said.

“We all share this responsibility and need to show our support for the children who suffer abuse at the hands of adults.

“In South Australia alone last year more than twelve thousand children were the subject of notifications of abuse.

“Children learn behavior from adults, good and bad behaviors, and the NAPCAN Children See, Children Do campaign has highlighted this to me personally in a very powerful way.

“Children are our future and they deserve to be loved, protected and nurtured. “The long-term effects of child abuse are horrific and we can all help to try and stop this happening in our community.”

In National Child Protection Week 2008 NAPCAN has chosen to focus on the responsibility of all adults to break the cycle of abuse.
