Federal Member for Mallee John Forrest he was delighted one of the recommendations of a government Export Market Development Grants review was the need for more funding.

Last week, he was calling for the immediate release of the review so exporters in Mallee could get an early idea of the government’s export intentions.

Mr Forrest said the key recommendations of the Mortimer Review of the EMDG scheme had rejected most of the changes introduced by Trade Minister Simon Crean earlier this year.

“Importantly, the inquiry found that the Minister had under-funded the EMDG scheme, despite pre-election promises to assist exporters,” Mr Forrest said.

“It is interesting that Mr Crean made his changes before the review was finalised, and yet the Rudd Government is not prepared to increase single age, single service and Widow B pensions by $30 a week until a review of pensions is completed.
