The Ouyen Centenary Sub-Group has just launched a web site enabling people from all over Australia to have involvement in the district’s 100 years celebrations to be during 2009.

Member for Mallee John Forrest said the sub-group of Ouyen Incorporated had developed the site so people could view the information and leave a message in the guestbook area.

Ouyen is unique in its location and 100 years ago was a pioneering centre for the many people who cleared pastoral country to convert the Mallee into the productive farm lands of today.

“The committee is preparing a whole of year celebration with all sorts of events featuring many facets of Mallee life,” Mr Forrest said.

“The web site is another step forward, and people can leave messages, ask questions and most importantly, provide stories, pictures and other material of interest that might have been handed down from earlier generations.

“Ouyen’s a wonderful community and I trust locals, ex locals and visitors can join the celebrations.

“I suggest everybody visit the web site regularly and contribute to the conversation.

“Already, there’s some interesting information there about the good times, and the hard times including drought and war,” Mr Forrest said.
