MEDIA RELEASE

JOYCE MUST RESTORE FARM FINANCE FUNDING

Barnaby Joyce must restore the debt relief funding he has ripped away from Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory.

As was revealed in Senate Estimates this week, Barnaby Joyce didn’t even consult with the adversely affected States before cutting their funding.

The Farm Finance Package is not just about drought. The $420 million program was put in place by the former Labor Government to assist farming families struggling to meet debt commitments. Farmers face problems for a variety of reasons, including drought and market conditions.

If some states need more drought assistance, the Government should increase overall funding, not rob it from farm families in other states.

Prior to the election the Coalition promised farmers more, not less. Australian farmers can’t afford Barnaby Joyce’s cuts.
