CATHERINE KING MP SHADOW MINISTER FOR HEALTH MEMBER FOR BALLARAT

MEDIA RELEASE

12TH INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR ORGAN DONATION AND PROCUREMENT CONGRESS

Shadow Minister for Health Catherine King today recognised the more than 560 delegates at the 12th International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement Congress, co-hosted by the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority established by Labor.

The Conference brings together senior clinicians, scientists, educators, researchers and other experts in the organ and tissue donation and transplantation sector.

Held over four days in Sydney, delegates will have an opportunity to explore clinical and policy aspects of donation and transplantation. Presenters from Europe, Canada, Pakistan, China, the United States and South America will complement the experience of the more than 300 Australian delegates.

It is appropriate the Congress be held in Australia, providing delegates with an opportunity to learn from Australia’s experience with organ and tissue donation reform, and continue this nation’s journey of learning with international experts.

The reforms Labor introduced in government have led to organ and tissue donation being on track for the fourth consecutive year of record levels of donation and transplantation.

It will be critical the government ensure this growth is preserved and that this important sector is quarantined from the government’s planned cuts to health.
