Power prices will come down when carbon tax is scrapped

While Labor continues to ignore the outcome of the election, today there is further confirmation that Australian households will benefit from lower electricity prices when the carbon tax is scrapped.

Alinta Energy has confirmed it will pass through savings from the carbon tax repeal.

“Alinta Energy confirms the Government’s commitment to repeal the carbon price will have the effect of reducing the costs placed on energy providers,” said Alinta Energy CEO, Jeff Dimery.

“Any cost savings associated with the carbon price repeal will be passed onto retail customers by Alinta Energy.”

For Alinta’s customers in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria - this confirms what the Coalition has been saying all along. Prices will come down when the carbon tax is scrapped.

It’s a view that’s already been echoed by ACCC Chairman Rod Sims, when he said earlier this month that “electricity prices went up fairly quickly on the way up and they will go down fairly immediately on the way down”

“What went up will clearly come down when you take away the carbon price.”

With Parliament set to vote on the carbon tax repeal legislation on Thursday, Bill Shorten has a very clear choice. Does the Opposition Leader support higher electricity prices or does he support reducing the cost of living?

The only person standing between Australian households and $550 is Electricity Bill Shorten.

The Coalition is committed to repealing the carbon tax and won’t stop until it is scrapped.
