Anzac Centenary Local Grants funding increase

The Coalition Government has announced extra support for the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program which brings the total funding available for each Federal Electorate to $125,000.

“The final date for applications to be received and assessed by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs has also been extended to 20 May 2014. Applications should be forwarded to my office at the earliest possible time to ensure they get through the assessment process at the local and Departmental level,” Federal Member for Murray, Dr Sharman Stone said.

Sharman Stone is again inviting applications from communities and groups who may be planning special commemorations for the Centenary of our involvement in World War I.

“It is important that our community works together to ensure that we pay appropriate tribute to the locals who answered the call to serve their nation, along with the nearly 1/3 who were killed or wounded in defence of the freedom of others, our values and beliefs.

“These Anzac Centenary Local Grants provide an opportunity to honour the service and sacrifice that epitomizes the ANZAC spirit. It can be done in many different ways, ranging from re-enactments of events, school-based education programmes, refurbishing of memorials and honour boards, to planting new Avenues of Honour,” Sharman Stone said.

“The Murray electorate Anzac Centenary Community Grants Committee which has representatives from the five Shires in the electorate will assess applications for funding and make recommendations about projects to be submitted to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs for consideration.

Those who have already submitted an application do not need to re-apply.
