ANZAC Day 2013 April 25, 2013

ANZAC Day is the most sacred day in our national life.

Almost a century has passed since the first ANZACs landed on the shores of Gallipoli. The courage and love of country of those young men helped make us a nation.

First World War veterans were subsequently joined by the veterans of the Second World War, Korea, Malaya, Borneo, Vietnam,

Iraq, Afghanistan, East Timor and the Solomon Islands and by all who have served in other deployments.

In total, one million Australians have served our country in our defence forces.

Today, we honour all who have served our country in war and in peace.

Australia is a better place because of their service and the world is a safer place because of their sacrifice.

This ANZAC Day, I encourage all Australians to join in the commemorations and to pause and reflect on the sacrifice and service of so many.

Lest We Forget.
