Coalition to support redevelopment of Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre July 04, 2013

A Coalition government will commit $10 million to the redevelopment of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC).

The Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre is a vital piece of community infrastructure that services a vast area and a growing population. When completed, the redevelopment will provide local residents with modern, multi-purpose recreational, sporting

and aquatic facilities.

The upgrade of the MARC is a community project that has already been supported by the Western Australian Government and the City of Mandurah and will deliver an exciting new $35 million state of the art recreation facility to the local community.

The MARC is a central part of the Mandurah community attracting over 600,000 visits per year. It teaches thousands of children

the fundamentals of swimming and fitness and employs over 100 staff.

As one of the fastest growing regions in Western Australia, this commitment is a vote of confidence in the wider Peel region and its future.

In 2010, the Coalition committed to support the MARC redevelopment and this announcement reaffirms our commitment to deliver

this important community infrastructure.

Stage One of the MARC redevelopment project is due to commence later this year. Stage One will deliver the aquatic component of the project, which includes a 50m outdoor pool, a new leisure pool and a refurbishment of the existing 25m pool.

If elected, our commitment will support the completion of Stage Two of the redevelopment. Stage Two of the project will deliver a

range of new amenities, including additional multi-use courts, spectator seating, a new gymnasium, expansion of the existing crèche area, administration facilities and additional car parking.

All levels of the Coalition are committed to completing the MARC redevelopment: the Barnett State Government is assisting with

the funding of State One and a Coalition government, working with Don Randall and Donna Gordin, will help deliver Stage Two. Our united approach contrasts with the division and dysfunction of the Labor Party.

The Coalition is committed to building the infrastructure that our local communities deserve, as part of our Real Solutions Plan to

grow the economy, get the Budget under control and create one million new jobs within five years.

Only the Coalition has the Plan to deliver the prosperous economy and 21st century infrastructure our country needs.
