Strathpine to benefit from new one-stop-shop Senator the Hon Jan McLucas Minister for Human Services

Senator Mark Furner Senator for Queensland

23 May 2013

Centrelink and Medicare services will work side-by-side under one roof for the convenience of Strathpine residents from Monday 27 May 2013.

All staff currently providing Medicare services at the Strathpine Westfield Shopping Centre will relocate and offer the same services alongside Centrelink at 242 Gympie Road.

Minister for Human Services Senator, Senator Jan McLucas and Senator for Queensland, Mark Furner said people in the northern suburbs would benefit from easier access to services in one handy location.

"Having Medicare and Centrelink services working alongside each other means locals will have easy access to the services they need without having to travel to more than one location," Senator McLucas said.

"The service centre on Gympie road will undergo a facelift to provide a pleasant environment for the community and staff, and better access to both Medicare and Centrelink services.

"The new features include an open plan layout with more seating for customers, more self-service options and a ‘charge bar’ which customers can use to recharge their mobile devices."

Senator for Queensland, Mark Furner said residents in Strathpine can also take advantage of the new Medicare electronic claiming options.

"Local residents can choose to access Medicare services without having to visit an office," Senator Mark Furner said.

"Residents can claim rebates electronically by registering their bank account details with Medicare to receive their benefit by EFT transfer.

"Once people have registered their bank account details, they can claim directly at the doctor. Strathpine residents should ask their local doctor if they offer this service.

"Claims can also be made through Medicare online or phone services, at a time and place of your convenience, 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

The Strathpine Service Centre on Gympie Road will open 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. Medicare services will remain available on Saturday mornings from 9am to 12.30pm
