Gympie to benefit from new one-stop-shop Senator the Hon Jan McLucas Minister for Human Services

Senator the Hon John Hogg Senator for Queensland

27 May 2013

Centrelink and Medicare services will work side-by-side under one roof for the convenience of Gympie residents as of Tuesday 11 June 2013.

Minister for Human Services, Senator Jan McLucas said Gympie locals would benefit from easier access to services at the one-stop-shop.

"People lead busy lives and need to be able to access government services in a way that suits them," Senator McLucas said.

"This centre will assist in making life easier for Gympie residents who will have access to more services in the one spot.

All staff currently providing Medicare services at Cullinanes Centre on 104 Mary Street will relocate and offer the same services alongside Centrelink around the corner at 27 O'Connell Street in Gympie.

"There are already more than 100 one-stop-shops where both Centrelink and Medicare services can be accessed and there will be many more to come."

Senator for Queensland, John Hogg welcomed the new centre in Gympie and reminded locals to take advantage of Medicare's new electronic claiming options without having to visit an office.

"Residents can claim rebates electronically by registering their bank account details with Medicare to receive their benefit by EFT transfer," Senator Hogg said.

"Once people have registered their bank account details, they can claim their rebate directly at the doctor, online or over the phone. Gympie residents should ask their local doctor if they offer this service.

"The office on O'Connell Street will be refurbished to provide a more relaxed, and open space that will allow people to easily conduct their Medicare and Centrelink business.

"Having more government services available from the one place will be great for Gympie seniors and families who regularly use both Medicare and Centrelink services. Now they no longer have to travel to two offices to get things done."

Medicare and Centrelink services will be available at Gympie's new one-stop-shop from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
