People affected by the Tasmanian Bushfires this year in the Sorell, Tasman and Glamorgan-Spring Bay Local Government Areas have until Monday 8 July 2013 to lodge a claim for the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP).

"The January bushfires were the worst in recent years in Tasmania, devastating homes, businesses and farms across the Sorrell, Tasman and Glamorgan-Spring Bay areas," Attorney-General and Minister for Emergency Management Mark Dreyfus QC said.

"While many people have already lodged a claim for this recovery assistance, others may have been busy with recovery and rebuilding efforts and may not yet have lodged their claim."

More than 7,000 Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payments have been made in Tasmania, totalling over $7.9 million in assistance.

Minister for Human Services, Senator Jan McLucas is urging eligible residents to lodge a claim before the payment closes on 8 July 2013.

"The payment ensures those who were significantly affected by the disaster receive support to help them get back on their feet," Senator McLucas said.

The AGDRP provides a one-off payment of $1,000 for eligible adults and $400 for each eligible child in declared Local Government Areas.

It is available to those:

 whose home was destroyed or severely damaged  who were seriously injured in the disaster  who were unable to gain access to their home for 24 hours or more, or  whose home was without utilities or other essential services for at least 48 hours.

Senator McLucas said that while the AGDRP is closing on 8 July for the Sorell, Tasman and Glamorgan-Spring Bay Local Government Areas, the Australian Government continues to work closely with the community and State Government to help with the rebuilding process.
