Coalition to invest $53 million in Narellan Road upgrade

Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey together with the Federal Member for Macarthur, Russell Matheson today announced the Coalition will, if elected, invest $53 million to upgrade Narellan Road.

“This investment is great news for residents in Macarthur and throughout south-west Sydney,” Mr Matheson said.

“I am delighted to announce this much-needed investment, which demonstrates the Coalition’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the south-western Sydney growth corridor.”

The project involves upgrading Narellan Road between Camden Valley Way at Narellan and Blaxland Road at Campbelltown to a six-lane divided road to improve traffic flow and road safety.

Key features include:

• an upgrade to a six lane divided road, generally three lanes in each direction with a central median; • new traffic lights at Kenny Hill Road and M31 Hume Motorway southbound interchange intersection; • a three metre wide off-road shared pedestrian and cycle path, including a

pedestrian bridge over the M31 Hume Motorway;

• designated turning lanes and bicycle and pedestrian crossing provisions at traffic lights; • early work to lengthen the southbound exit ramp lane adjacent to the Hume Motorway; • widen the southbound exit ramps from the Hume Motorway to Narellan Road to

provide extra storage capacity; • widening the bridge over the Hume Motorway to allow for the upgrade of Narellan Road; • provision of a heavy vehicle inspection bay at Kenny Hill (westbound); and • provision of a traffic incident response facility near the M31 Hume Motorway

interchange (east).

Mr Hockey congratulated Mr Matheson on securing this investment and said the Coalition would work with the NSW Government to deliver the road infrastructure that local residents deserve.

“Mr Matheson has fought hard for this investment which will improve travel times and increase safety for south-western Sydney motorists,” Mr Hockey said.

“The Narellan Road upgrade is part of the Coalition’s comprehensive plan to improve infrastructure following years of neglect under successive State and Federal Labor Governments.

“Only the Coalition has the economic track record to actually deliver this investment and that’s why the people of Macarthur should vote for Russell Matheson.”
