Better health services for Gladstone as new GP Super Clinic officially opens

The Federal Labor Government has delivered on its promise for improved health services in Gladstone, with the official opening of the Gladstone GP Super Clinic today.

Minister for Health Tanya Plibersek and Labor candidate for Flynn Chris Trevor said the Gladstone GP Super Clinic will provide a wide range of health services for local residents, including:

 General Practice (including acute illness treatment and wound management)  Chronic disease management  Diabetes education  Immunisation services  Pathology  Physiotherapy  Psychology  Radiology  Ultrasound  CT and MRI services  A skin cancer care clinic

It will provide bulk billing services for most GP services.

“This GP Super Clinic is providing an impressive range of services already,” Minister Plibersek said.

“It’s open from 7.00am-7.00pm, Monday-Friday, and from 9.00am-5.00pm on the weekend, with a 24 hour on call service as well - meaning that local residents get the care they need, when they need it.”

The Super Clinic is working with its partners, including the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Queensland School of Medicine, in order to train the health professionals of the future.

“We know that health professionals who train in an area are more likely to stay and work in that area,” Mr Trevor said.

“That’s why the Gladstone GP Super Clinic’s commitment to training is so important, because it means we’ll attract more doctors and health professionals to live and work in our community.

“I’m delighted to see this clinic officially opened because I fought so hard for it when I was the local member, and I’d like to congratulate everyone who has been involved in getting this significant project off the ground.”

The Gladstone GP Super Clinic was partially funded by a $5 million grant from the Federal Labor Government, which is already provided for in the budget.
