FEDERAL LABOR BACKS CHANNEL HIGHWAY UPGRADE

A re-elected Rudd Labor Government will provide the Huon Valley Council with $7.5 million to upgrade and widen a notorious section of the Channel Highway, near Huonville, as well as build new link roads and erect a new bridge over Skinners Creek.

This project will not only deliver safer driving conditions for locals and visitors alike, but also act as a catalyst for renewed commercial and economic development in the Huon Valley and along the Huonville foreshore.

Good infrastructure matters.

That’s why this Federal Labor Government is providing real money for real projects which will make a real difference, with the Channel Highway Upgrade adding to our already record capital works program here in Tasmania.

Across the State we are investing an unprecedented $1.9 billion, including in targeted upgrades to the Midland Highway and the most extensive modernisation of the rail network in generations. We have in fact almost doubled annual Federal infrastructure spending from $146 to $270 per Tasmanian.

On top of that we have announced a comprehensive Jobs and Growth Plan plus extra assistance for the State’s exporters.

At the coming Federal Election the choice is clear. If you want better road, rail and public infrastructure, then you have got to vote Labor as we are the only ones with a positive vision and clear plan to build Tasmania’s future.

Funding for this project will be provided from the National Building 2 Program, which is already included in the budget.
