The Hon Christopher Pyne MP Shadow Minister for Education, Apprenticeships and Training Coalition Campaign Spokesman

Tuesday 27 August 2013

Kevin is a make-up artist

Kevin Rudd must apologise to the Australian people for sacrificing the truth in his relentless campaign to keep his job.

Labor’s daily menu of lies, shams and scares has included made-up nurses, bogus barbecues, sham swinging voters, phoney carbon tax receipts, mock photo opportunities and a concocted childcare visit.

With almost two weeks to go until election day, Australians are entitled to wonder what other cons Kevin Rudd and his apparatchiks are planning to dish up.

Yesterday, Mr Rudd was at the centre of another stage-managed photo opportunity with parents at a childcare centre. The event unravelled when the chosen parents admitted they didn’t have any children enrolled at the centre, and were hand-picked to meet the Prime Minister by friends within the Labor Party.

Earlier in the week Mr Rudd had another bogus photo opportunity, staging a made-up meeting to discuss the crisis in Syria with his chief of staff and the Foreign Affairs Minister.

These cons come less than a week after Mr Rudd told reporters he was “talking to real people”, before attending a bogus barbecue at the family home of an active Labor Party branch member.

Then there was the lawn bowls club visit where the club’s members were ignored so Mr Rudd could instead play bowls with a group of ALP members bussed in from another club.

Labor’s promise to campaign on a positive platform has also proven a con, as Mr Rudd continues to serve up a relentless scare campaign about plans to cut to health and education.

Even the people starring in the Labor Party’s negative advertising campaigns are bogus.

First there was ‘sour Susie’, purporting to be a middle-class battler despite being an actress who is renovating her home while complaining about the cost of her imported Spanish tiles. Then a pretend nurse who, despite her real career as a Sydney lawyer, claimed people she worked with were sacked by Campbell Newman.

Most astounding of all though, is the flyer being distributed to marginal seats in which Kevin Rudd claims he has ‘abolished’ the carbon tax.
