Campaign Media Release

Make no mistake, if Mr Abbott wins on September 7, he will initiate a generation of deep cuts.

During his campaign launch on Sunday, Mr Abbott locked the Coalition into a policy whereby:

‘… each year, government will be a smaller percentage of our economy.’

Experts have today confirmed that this would mean deep and long-running cuts to the budget, in light of Mr Abbott’s expensive spending commitments, including his paid parental leave scheme.

Mark Thomson from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute said that for Mr Abbott to deliver on this promise, an axe would need to be taken important programs across the budget:

‘… there will have to be a lot of people receiving transfer payments, handouts and research grants and the like who are going to have to lose out to make it happen’.

And highly regarded economist, Saul Eslake, has again reiterated the danger of big cuts that Mr Abbott has in store:

‘… there's not a lot of scope for them to find these sacks of money that are going to deliver them the savings they need.’

These comments should deeply concern Australian families who still remain none the wiser of Mr Abbott’s hidden cuts.

The fact is, Mr Abbott's numbers don't add up, and it will be Australian families who will pay.

In Queensland, Campbell Newman waited until after he was elected to make vicious cuts under the guise of a Commission of Audit.

Commissions of Audit are simply an excuse to make drastic cuts Australians don't know about until it's too late.

Mr Abbott must come clean with Australians about his cuts to come and what they will lose if he wins.
