Daily Carbon Tax question no.26 to Kevin Rudd: Which PM can’t explain why he voted for a Carbon Tax knowing the Government had no mandate and is now keeping it?

Kevin Rudd has admitted that Labor has no mandate for the Carbon Tax but he still can’t explain why he voted for it and if re-elected, says he will keep it.

Kevin Rudd today dodged the issue after yesterday confirming Labor’s betrayal of the Australian people with the introduction of the Carbon Tax.

Mr Rudd failed to answer why he voted for the Carbon Tax when asked during a press conference today.

He then went on to confirm that the Carbon Tax will stay if re-elected:

“We made our position clear about moving to a floating price, and we intend to do that.”(Kevin Rudd, 28 August 2013)

Despite pledging to ‘abolish’ the Carbon Tax, it will continue to cost Australian families $3,000 over the next six years, rising to $38 per tonne by 2019 as affirmed by Treasury in the recently released Pre Election Fiscal Outlook (PEFO).

Mr Rudd concedes that there is no mandate and yet he is keeping the Carbon Tax. The only change between the Gillard and Rudd Carbon Taxes is a 12 month discount. That's it.

This election is a referendum on the Carbon Tax and if elected, the Coalition will honour its commitment to the Australian people and repeal the Carbon Tax.
