Rudd admits carbon tax betrayal

Kevin Rudd today finally admitted that Labor betrayed the Australian people by introducing a carbon tax without a mandate.

This morning on ABC’s Insiders program Mr Rudd admitted the carbon tax was one of a number of things Labor had got wrong.

Kevin Rudd: “For example, I don’t think our actions on the carbon tax were right ...”

Barry Cassidy: “What was wrong with that?”

Kevin Rudd: “Well, to begin with we didn’t have a mandate for it.”

It must be remembered that Mr Rudd voted for the carbon tax, which will rise to $38 per tonne by 2019-20 as affirmed by Treasury in the recently released Pre Election Fiscal Outlook (PEFO).

Mr Rudd says there is no mandate, but he is keeping the carbon tax. The only change between the Gillard and Rudd carbon taxes is a 12 month discount. That's it.

This confirms that despite Kevin Rudd’s blatant lie that Labor has terminated the carbon tax, his government, if re-elected will continue to drive up the cost of electricity for all Australian families and businesses.

The introduction of the carbon tax without the mandate of the Australian people was one of the biggest

political betrayals in our nation’s history and finally today Kevin Rudd has admitted it.
