The Hon Justine Elliot MP [link:/elliot] Member for Richmond

Federal Member for Richmond Justine Elliot has urged local residents of all ages to attend the Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo in Tweed Heads on Wednesday 8 August

2012.

“Local jobs seekers, employers and training providers will be together under one roof at the jobs expo,” Ms Elliot said.

A previous jobs expo held in the region at Lismore in March 2010 saw local job seekers connected with a variety of employment and skills training opportunities.

“More than 160 job seekers walked away with a job and many more with training opportunities at the Lismore Jobs Expo. That’s why we’re bringing an expo to the RichmondTweed region to build on that success.”

There will be large jobs boards filled with vacancies for all ages and skills levels and a skills board where registered training organisations will promote courses available in the area.

“Exhibiting is free so local employers are encouraged to get on board, think about their

workforce needs for the year ahead and register their interest.”

The Expo will be held at the Tweed Heads PCYC in Florence Street from 10am to 3pm on

Wednesday 8 August.

Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis encouraged job seekers, employers and training and educational organisations in the region to get involved in the expo.

“This is an excellent opportunity for local job seekers and people interested in undertaking further skills training to meet a range of employers and training providers in

a single location,” Ms Ellis said.

“The Government is supporting employers through programs and incentives that help give Australians the skills employers are looking for, and the Jobs and Skills Expos provide

a great opportunity to connect employers with potential employees.

“The expos are designed to create a jobs and skills marketplace, connecting job seekers

with jobs and skills training opportunities. There will be employers, employment services providers and training providers together with other agencies, all under one roof, all on

one day.”

Minister for Human Services Senator Kim Carr said the Tweed Heads Jobs and Skills Expo is part of the Government’s broader activities to help people into work and training.

“TweedRichmond is a great part of the country, and the people here deserve to share in the benefits of Australia’s strong economy,” Senator Kim Carr said.

“At the expo people will see what jobs and training places are available in their local area. This can be a great first step to retraining, or getting back into the workplace.

“It’s also a great opportunity for employers, who can meet many local jobseekers in one

day. Even if they can’t make it to the expo, their job vacancies and training ads can still be displayed, so I encourage everyone to get on board,” he said.

Since October 2009, the 55 Jobs and Skills Expos held across Australia have connected more than 20,000 people to jobs and many thousands more to training opportunities.
