The Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo is coming to Kwinana in September, bringing with it hundreds of local job and skills training opportunities for job seekers in the region.

Minister for Employment Participation, Kate Ellis, today encouraged job seekers in the region to get involved in the expo.

“This is an excellent opportunity for local job seekers and people interested in undertaking further skills training to meet a range of employers and training providers in a single location,” Ms Ellis said.

“The Government is supporting employers through programs and incentives to help find and train people with the skills they need, and the Jobs and Skills Expos provide a great opportunity to connect employers with potential employees.”

The Jobs and Skills Expo will be held on 5 September from 10 am to 3 pm, at:

The expos are designed to create a jobs and skills marketplace, bringing together employment services providers and training organisations, as well as Government and other agencies with employers and job seekers, all under one roof, all on one day.

Special Minister of State Gary Gray said the Kwinana Jobs and Skills Expo is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to action at a local level in areas that are still doing it tough, despite the current boom being experienced by the resource sector.

Both Ministers also urged employers from the resources sector to get involved in the event and help local people share in the prosperity of the resources boom.

“Exhibiting is free so I encourage local employers to get on board. Even if you can’t be an exhibitor on the day, your job vacancy or skills training opportunity can be displayed at the expo,” Mr Gray said.

The expo in Kwinana will have a jobs board with jobs on offer, and a skills board where local skills training organisations promote courses available in the area.

Since 2009, 56 Jobs and Skills Expos have been held across Australia, connecting more than 21,000 job seekers with employment and training opportunities.

“Labour market conditions in the South West Perth priority employment area have been mixed over the last year, and we know we can make a difference to the lives of local people with this expos,” Ms Ellis said.
