Thousands more people across Australia will find a job or training place, with 12 more of the Australian Government’s highly successful Jobs and Skills Expos to take place this year.

The Expos will be held in selected regions, bringing employers, employment services providers and training organisations together with job seekers on one day - creating a one-stop-shop for jobs and training.

Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis said the Gillard Labor Government is committed to helping people into work and training.

“While unemployment rates in some regions have improved there’s still more work to be done in many communities, that’s why we’re continuing to roll out the Expos across the country,” Ms Ellis said.

“The Expos have been a great success since their introduction in 2009, connecting more than 21,000 people to real jobs and many thousands more to training opportunities.

“I encourage job seekers to attend the expos as it’s never too late to up-skill, re-skill or get into in the workforce.”

Minister for Human Services Senator Kim Carr urged local employers to get involved in the Expos and help get local people back to work.

“Not all Australians are sharing in the nation’s success, but we are committed to changing that. As a Labor Government we can work with communities to ensure everyone gets a fair go,” Senator Kim Carr said.

“The Expos are a practical way of connecting employers with local job seekers, some of whom have been unemployed for a long time.

“Exhibiting is free so I encourage all local employers to get involved if an Expo is coming to town - it’s a good way for them to meet local people who are keen to work with them.”

Since October 2009, 55 Jobs and Skills Expos have been held across the country as part of the Australian Government’s $3 billion Building Australia’s Future Workforce package.
