Coalition commits $500,000 to Central Queensland Stadium plan

15th July, 2013

Joint Media Release

Hon Tony Abbott MHR Leader of The Opposition

Hon Warren Truss MHR Leader of The Nationals Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Michelle Landry LNP Candidate for Capricornia

A COALITION government will invest $500,000 towards a study into developing a world-class stadium and sporting precinct in Rockhampton.

This commitment will open new tourism, community, sporting and businesses opportunities for Rockhampton and the region and will kick-start Central Queensland’s bid for an NRL team of its own.

Our investment builds on the strong support from the Queensland Government, Rockhampton Regional Council, Capricorn Enterprise and the Central Queensland NRL Bid team.

LNP candidate for Capricornia Michelle Landry has been a strong advocate in support of the Rockhampton community’s campaign for better infrastructure and a Central Queensland NRL team the community can call its own.

The proposed stadium for Rockhampton would provide a regional community facility with seating for 20,000 spectators. It would be complemented by an elite sporting academy to support the development of young athletes being nurtured to compete at senior levels of rugby league.

The stadium would be designed to allow large-scale events such as concerts to be staged and also to facilitate smaller events, like conferences and conventions.

It is envisaged that the stadium would also have the flexibility to become an integral part of the triennial

Beef Australia Expo, creating additional exhibition facilities and attractions.

The Coalition’s $500,000 investment will go towards:

* Strategic Planning Advice Report: $137,926 * Business planning, cost estimates, 3D visuals: $41,000 * Additional services, site evaluation (five potential sites) $35,000 * Stadium Architectural Concept Design: $71,518 * Stadium Architectural Schematic Concept: $214,556

The Coalition is committed to building the capacity of regional Queensland, as part of our Real Solutions Plan to grow the economy, get the Budget under control and create one million new jobs within five years.

Only the Coalition has the Plan to deliver the prosperous economy and 21st century infrastructure that our country needs.
