New Innovation Grants look to the future

New Innovation Grants look to the future 6 June 2013 DAFF13/515L

Grants of up to $1.5 million are now available to help farmers prepare for the future by developing and adopting innovative practices and technologies.

The Innovation Grants under the Caring for our Country Sustainable Agriculture stream are available for agriculture, fishing, aquaculture and farm forestry industries.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, said innovation was essential to managing natural resources in a sustainable way and ensuring communities and businesses could continue to rely upon them.

“Australia’s primary producers are world leaders and many are already using innovative practices and technologies to stay at the top of their game,” Minister Ludwig.

“Farmers I meet show me the ways they’re using technology like remote stock monitoring and smart phone applications as part of their daily business. The Government wants to broaden the use and uptake of innovations and technologies across industries and regions.

“The Innovation Grants will help ensure Australian producers remain competitive and be leaders in sustainable food and fibre production.”

Farming system groups, industry, agribusinesses, companies in the food supply chain, research bodies, community groups, universities and individuals are encouraged to apply. Partnerships or consortiums are also eligible.
