SMITHFIELD MANUFACTURER CUTS POWER BILLS AND PREPARES FOR A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE

Kalleske Meats Pty Ltd, a Smithfield manufacturer will reduce both its power bills and carbon emissions with the help of a $41,741 grant from the Gillard Labor Government’s $1 billion Clean Technology Investment Programs.

Federal Member for Wakefield, Nick Champion congratulated Kalleske Meats Pty Ltd and said the grant would help save around $45,000 on its power bills.

“The Gillard Labor Government is working in partnership with Kalleske Meats Pty Ltd to reduce emissions and save costs. The funding will help reduce their power bill and carbon pollution by reducing the energy intensity of their operations by 90%,” Nick Champion said.

“This will be achieved by installing solar panels at their facility in Smithfield.

“These changes are exactly the sort of practical improvements that the Clean Technology Investment Programs were designed to support. It is good to see the Clean Technology Investment Programs having a practical impact in Smithfield.

“By helping manufacturers invest in energy efficient capital equipment and low emissions technologies, processes and products, Labor is supporting projects that are good for businesses, good for the community and good for the environment.

“The Clean Technology Investment Programs are an important part of the Gillard Labor Government’s plan for a Clean Energy Future.

“The $800 million Clean Technology Investment Program and the $200 million Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program are in place to support manufacturers make the transition to a low pollution economy.”
