BRERETON MUST PROCEED WITH REVIEW ASAP

The Minister for Industrial Relations, Mr Brereton, yesterday conceded the need to review the operations of the Industrial Relations Reform Act.

Mr Brereton must now explain the procedures and timing of the review as quickly as possible.

The unfair dismissal provisions should be suspended in the meantime.

The Minister should say which form the review will take, whether the review will cover all aspects of the Act or only selected parts, which parts it will cover, when it will take place and its reporting deadline.

The Act, especially the unfair dismissal provisions, threaten the success of the government's labour market programs due to their powerful deterrent effects on existing and would-be employers.
