$420,359 for NBN training services in Tamworth

The Independent Federal Member for New England, Tony Windsor, has welcomed today’s announcement by the Acting Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Kim Carr, and Senator for NSW, Doug Cameron, that funding of $420,359 has been provided under the Federal Government’s new Digital Hub program to enable Tamworth residents to access free expert advice on embracing the opportunities of the National Broadband Network.

Mr Windsor has received advice that the funding will be provided to Tamworth Regional Council to deliver the training which is scheduled to commence shortly.

“With the NBN already available in many areas surrounding Tamworth via fixed wireless services and NBN fibre being rolled out to some 19,500 premises in Tamworth by mid 2015, the provision of this free training via the Digital Hub program will enable local residents to obtain expert advice on the many exciting possibilities which the NBN offers as well as assisting local businesses to obtain information about the competitive advantages offered by high speed broadband services,” Mr Windsor said.

“The NBN was a crucial part of the agreement I reached which enabled the formation of the Federal minority Government and I welcome the provision of $420,359 under the Digital Hub program which will assist in securing important employment and other future opportunities for the Tamworth district.”

“I congratulate Tamworth Regional Council upon its successful application to operate a Digital Hub program and for embracing the concept of the NBN and the many advantages it offers our region,” he said.

“The NBN is the one piece of infrastructure I have seen in my public life that actually negates distance as a disadvantage of living in a country community and I extend my thanks to the Federal Government and Tamworth Regional Council for their roles in helping local residents and businesses to take full advantage of the numerous benefits which the NBN is bringing to country people and ultimately all Australians,” Mr Windsor concluded.
