Community Energy Efficiency Program Round 2, closing soon

Local councils and non profit community organisations have only a few weeks to apply for a grant through Round 2 of the Community Energy Efficiency Program.

Federal Member for Murray Dr Sharman Stone says the program provides cash for the improvement of energy efficiency to non-residential council and community buildings, facilities and lighting.

Applicant contributions vary from between one third of the total cost of their project to two thirds. These contributions must be from sources other than the Commonwealth Government.

For single applicants, grants of between $10,000 and $2 million are on offer. Group applications attract $5 million grants. Eligible organisations can apply as a single applicant or as a member of a group.

“Local government and non-profit organisations have an opportunity to access co funding for the adoption of improved energy management practices” Sharman Stone said.

“Some of the eligible activities for funding include energy audits or assessments, upgrades or retrofits to buildings and rooves, and upgrades to outdoor lighting such as street and traffic lights.”

The grants are merit-based and applications will be assessed against the following criteria Energy efficiency improvement potential Targeting low socio economic and other disadvantaged communities Potential to improve energy management practices Project design, funding and management Value for money

More information on the grants and the link to apply can be found online at http://www.climatechange.gov.au/ceep
