AUSTRALIAN TRADE AND INVESTMENT FORUMS

Recent liberalisation of the trade and investment environment in Zimbabwe has led to considerable commercial opportunities for Australian business.

This will be the message that Zimbabwean Minister for Industry and Commerce, Dr Herbert Murerwa, will bring to Australia when he leads a mission of prominent private sector representatives and senior government officials to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth from 23 - 31 October 1995.

The forums will provide an overview of the economic developments in Zimbabwe and the trade and investment environment. The forums will also enable Australian companies the opportunity to network with the visiting corporate and government decision makers. Individual programmed meetings for all members of the mission

will also be arranged in all three cities.

The Zimbabwean delegation will attend these forums, hosted by the Trade and Investment Promotion Service (TIPS), of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Investment Centre (ZIC) and ZimTrade.

Zimbabwe has an abundance of untapped natural resources, offering unlimited potential for Australian mining companies. Leading Australian mining companies have already taken advantage of the favourable investment environment in Zimbabwe, to establish a platinum mining operation earning Zimbabwe over Zim.$700 million annually.

Zimbabwean companies are keen to develop closer ties with Australian industry, particularly in the areas of technology transfers and joint venture partnerships. A range of specific trade and investment opportunities are being promoted in diverse

areas such as tourism, mining, forestry, household products, textiles, vehicle electrical components and agricultural products including red and white wine.

Forum dates and venues

SYDNEY, Renaissance Hotel, 23 October

MELBOURNE, Novotel Hotel, 26 October

PERTH, Sheraton Hotel, 31 October

TIPS's National Director, Norm Wall said; "Zimbabwe provides significant investment opportunities as a consequence of the Zimbabwe government's move to a more open economy, and the implementation of a very attractive investment

environment".

"As well as trade and investment opportunities, the forum will provide a window for Australian business into import trends that are arising in Southern Africa as a result of the recent political liberalisation in the region".

"Zimbabwe also provides Australian companies with an ideal gateway and established networks to Southern Africa, a market of around 300 million".

"Delegates attending the forums will be able to obtain the latest information about new projects being developed in a number of specific industry sectors as well as information on legislative changes, policy direction and trends likely to emerge in Zimbabwe".

Information and booking registration advice for the forums, which are FREE, is available from TIPS on Melbourne (03) 613 5563 or Sydney (02) 3566250.
