INDONESIAN MANPOWER MINISTRY OFFICIALS GRADUATE IN CANBERRA z

Eight senior officials from the Indonesian Ministry ofM anpower have completed three weeks' English language training at the University of Canberra. They will receive certificates at a ceremony on Friday, 31 March.

Over the same period, senior Indonesian officials from the Manpower Ministry and the Central Bureau of Statistics have been examining Australia's system of labour market information and job brokerage.

The English language course has been backed up with short work placements in the Department o f Employment, Education and Training and the Department o f Industrial Relations.

As part o f the Austral ian-Indonesian cooperation, agreed to in April 1994 by the Minister for Employment, Education and Training, Simon Crean, and Indonesian Minister ofM anpower Drs Abdul Latief, five senior DEBT officers will undertake work placements in Indonesia in

May.

"This exchange o f senior Australian and Indonesian government officials demonstrates the strong commitment o f both countries to developing closer cooperation in the development of our econom ies/ DEBT Secretary, Derek Volker, said.

"Australia and Indonesia are strong natural partners in workforce development and our education and training links are a key to this," he said. Mr Volker will host the ceremony on Friday.

The Indonesian Ambassador, His Excellency, M r Sabam P. Siagian, will attend the ceremony.
