BEET'S TECHNICAL AID TO BOOST LINKS WITH THE PACIFIC NATIONS

Australia is strengthening links with the Pacific region via increased cooperation between the Department o f Employment, Education and Training (DEBT) and a number of labour departments among Pacific nations.

DEBT Secretary, M r Derek Volker, will announce on Wednesday, June 14, that D EliT will provide computers and technical assistance to counterpart departments in Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Western Samoa and Kiribati.

This assistance will strengthen these departments' employment sendees, career information and labour market information, and is linked to a project of the International Labour Organisation to support labour departments in the Pacific.

The ILO Project to Support Pacific Labour Departments (PACLAB) began in 1990 and has benefited from continuing support from DEBT

Government Officials from the High Commissions of Western Samoa, Solomon Islands and the Cook Islands plus representatives from the ILO and AusAID have been invited
