AT RAAF WILLIAMS

The Royal Australian Air Force has awarded the coni ract for the provision of domestic services at its Point Cook and Laverton Bases in Victoria to the in-house option following evaluation under the Commercial Support Program.

The costs of a range of cleaning, waste removal, road sweeping, horticultural, and aboricultural services will fall by aproximately 23%, or half a million dollars, per annum.

The in-house proposal was able to significantly reduce its person oel costs whilst retaining quality of service through a revised management structure, multiskilling and the use of highly competitive local contracts.

The commercial tenderers offered lower prices than current arrangements but could not compete on a value for money basis.

The new arrangements will be implemented shortly, with full implementation being achieved by July 1996.

The contract was awarded under the Defence Commercial Support Program which seeks to commercialise defence support activities where cost effective, practicable and operationally feasible.
