Parliament to ride in new combat vehicles

Army combat vehicles will collect Federal politicians from Parliament House and take them away on Friday, 22 September.

The Parliamentarians will be met in the Parliament House top car park (adjoining the flagpoles) at 9.45 am and taken to a display of state-of-the-art equipment in service or about to enter service with the Australian Army. The display will be held at the ACT Driver Training Centre, Sutton Rd, Sutton, from 10.30 am to 12.15 pm.

Leading the convoy o f four vehicles will be an eight-wheeled ASLAV-PC (Australian Light Armoured Vehicle - Personnel Carrier), followed by an ASLAV-25 reconnnaissance vehicle and two six-wheeled Project Bushranger vehicles. All vehicles are equipped with machine guns, while the ASLAV-25 vehicle is also armed with a 25mm chain gun.

At Sutton, the Parliamentarians will board a range of vehicles again for a "rough ride" across rugged terrain as part o f a mobility display. They will also visit a hands-on static display of hi-technology night observation, simulation and communications equipment.
