Mr Tony Mooney has received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Foreign Minister’s Commendation for significant achievement in promoting understanding and friendship between Australia and Japan.

This Commendation has been awarded for his major contribution to relations between Australia and Japan over many years.

Among his notable contributions are his dedication to Cowra’s Japanese Garden as a Committee Member, Chairman and Adviser since 1981, his assistance in organising the Service of Reconciliation and Sakura Matsuri in Cowra to bring together Australian and Japanese in a cultural environment.

It is the first time the Commendation has been awarded to an individual in Australia. (The Australia-Japan Society of New South Wales received the same commendation in 1993.)

The Commendation will be presented by Flis Excellency Mr Kazutoshi Flasegawa at the International Youth Forum to be held in Cowra on 28 August 1995.
