The Department of Defence will save an anticipated $400 000 on support services over a five year period with the award of a contract to Advanced Food Systems.

The provision and management of security, messing, accommodation, ground maintenance and cleaning services at Wallangarra Supply Company near Tenterfield in NSW was reviewed under the Defence Commercial Support Program.

Advanced Food Systems will begin their services in November this year, with their contract valid for three years with provision for two one year extensions.

Advanced Food Systems won the contract from a field of six bidders.

Tt is expected that 20 Defence civilians and two Service personnel will be affected by the decision, with the civilian staff offered redeployment, retraining or voluntary redundancy and the two Service staff being redeployed.

The Defence Commercial Support Program aims to transfer non-core activities to the civil sector where operationally feasible, practicable, and cost effective.
