DPR 45/95 Monday, 05 June 1995


A team of 25 Special Air Service soldiers will begin training in Indonesia this month as part of EXERCISE NIGHT KOMODO 95. At the same time a contingent of Indonesian Special Forces will undergo training in Australia in EXERCISE NIGHT KOOKABURRA 95.

Training will concentrate on basic conventional military skills relevant to the role and function of Special Forces.

The reciprocal exercise will run from 5 to 27 June and will allow Australian troops to train in environmental conditions not commonly found in Australia. They will undertake military skills training activities including weapons practices, parachuting, roping and rappelling.

The Indonesian troops will use special purpose Australian training facilities to undertake aircraft counter-hijack training in Perth. They will also conduct one parachute drop.
