Senior military, departmental and Government officers will discuss the role of armies in nation-building at a three-day conference in Brisbane next

The annual Army Chief of the General Staffs Exercise will be held from June 14 to June 16 and will include speakers from Australia, the United States of America and die region.

The keynote address will be given by the Minister for Defence, Senator Robert Ray.

Twenty countries, including Pacific and Pacific Rim nations, Canada, Germany, India, Pakistan, Sweden and the United Kingdom will be represented.

The historical perspective of the conference will include papers on the development of Australia, the United States of America and Indonesia, while the regional perspective will focus on other countries in the region.

Speakers on the future will cover the role of armies in regional development and speakers from Queensland and Northern Territory will discuss the Army and the community.
